Chile Relief Efforts!!!!!!!!!

March 4, 2010

Dear Fellow Students:

Chile Relief Efforts

Hi everybody, my name is Tiare Gutierrez, fellow member of the OLAS at York. On February 28th, 2010 an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 hit off the coast of Concepciรณn, Chile leaving hundreds dead, an indefinite amount of people missing, and 2 million homeless as a result of this catastrophe. Not only were towns and cities destroyed but shortly after three tsunamis hit, only adding to the devastation and destruction. With houses and buildings destroyed many of the Chilean residents have been left out on the streets with no food, water, clothing, or shelter available and struggling day to day without the basic necessities.

I will be accepting all kinds of material donations (there is a list below) as I have taken it upon myself to try to do something to help the citizens of Chile as unfortunately not much help is being provided; the Canadian government only wants to send a mere 2 million dollars in relief efforts. I am strongly emphasizing on material donations as there are many other charities that are collecting money for Chile. I know that not everyone has the means to donate money especially being a student however most of us do have some of these items laying around that we no longer use along with other items that can be donated and given proper use in Chile.

Items:

· Clothing (preferably winter and children’s clothing)

· Shoes, scarves, mitts, hats

· Tents & sleeping bags

· Bedding (sheets, duvets, blankets)

· Diapers for adults & children

· Animal products (clothing, food, leashes)

· Toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrushes, towels, soap, shampoo, moist towelettes, etc)

· Cooking pots and cleaning products

· Non-perishable foods (preferably flour, oil, rice, pasta, beans & canned goods)

· Anything else you believe can help those affected!

I will be in the OLAS room located on the 4th floor of the Student Centre, room 421 from Monday to Friday throughout the day. There will be a bin to collect the donations. Also, if you have any questions please feel free to drop by or contact me.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated,

Tiare Gutierrez
